Congregation Aish HaTorah is a traditional Jewish synagogue servicing the Jewish community of Victoria, B.C. Our mission is simple; to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere that promotes Jewish education, Jewish spirituality, and Jewish cohesiveness. We’re reaching out to the Jewish community as a resource for making Judaism meaningful, relevant, and inspiring. Come join us for a class, a service, or even just a coffee and a schmooze.
Rabbi Barak Cohen and his wife Rachel joined the community in September of 2008 and have enthusiastically begun making Victoria their home and their community. Barak spent ten years in Israel studying at a number of yeshivot in Jerusalem prior to coming to Victoria. He received his ordination from both Rabbis Moshe Sternbuch and Nechemia Goldberg, additionally, he’s currently continuing his higher education in the field of Behavioral Science.
Rachel was born in New York and made Aliyah with her family when she was eleven. There she finished high school and her post high school seminary education where she focused both on education and computer programming. Before moving to Victoria, Rachel was employed by the JNF of Israel where she worked in their computer department for over five years. Barak and Rachel have a three-year-old daughter, Eliana, who was born in Israel, and who loves her new home on the island.
The Cohen’s would love to open their home to the Greater Jewish Community of Vancouver Island, whether this be your permanent home, whether you're passing by, or just off the boat.
